Homestart

-furnishing homes, rebuilding lives-

HomeStart Foundation is unique in the Lower Mainland! Our mission: to redistribute safe, clean, functional furniture in a professional, dignified manner, from those who want to share to those who are truly in need. We provide good quality used furniture to people who, due to circumstance, do not have the resources to put furniture in their homes. Our goal is to help them achieve self-sufficiency, self-esteem, and long-term stability.

Some fast facts:

  • HomeStart got its start with seed money from the Trinity Opportunity Fund in 2003.
  • 1000th home.
  • $200.00 furnishes a home, including delivery - usually with beds, kitchen table & chairs, dresser, sofa.
  • 40% of our clients are children. 593 people were served in 2006.
  • 66 member agencies screen & refer their clients to us. Women & children leaving transition shelters, refugees, youth leaving foster care, parolees; these are people making a new home & a fresh start.
  • Kitsilano Christian Community's Outreach budget for 2007 includes $12000.00 for HomeStart. HomeStart’s total budget is $80,000.00
