Kits and Our Community
Jesus calls us to love others, alleviate suffering and injustice through acts of kindness, and spread his word to others. Kitsilano Christian Community is part of a long church tradition that aims to fulfil this calling. We work this out in a variety of ways:
- Financial support for ministries in our community
- Kate Booth House - a home for abused women and children.
- A local school lunch program.
- Navigators - developing Christian leadership for campus ministry.
- Young Life
- Intervarsity Christian Fellowship of Canada
- Financial and practical support for
- Out of the Cold - providing hot meals and conversation (and a place to sleep in cold months) to those who need it.
- The Brenda Johnston Fund - helping people in our congregation go on short-term mission trips.
- Homestart - providing everything needed to set up a home.
- Christmas benevolence - Gifts at Christmas to help those in need celebrate the holiday.
- The ACTS Aid Station in Uganda
As a community, we also stand behind the work of many of our members who reach out to others locally and internationally. For example, Kits Christian Community is the home base for many who have followed their own calls to
- work for a year at an orphanage in Ipoderac, Mexico
- spend the summer with Vancouver-area youth at Keats Camps
- help college students in Kazahkstan practice their English and learn about Christianity
- put their nursing skills and experience to work in Kenya
- setting up an Aids station and providing medical care in Uganda
