* Are you interested in exploring membership at Kits?
With our Spring Business Meeting coming up in June, we are wanting to offer a 2 session membership class for those people who are making Kits their church home and who are interested in learning more about membership. For the next two Sundays we will be inviting people to register their interest in this by completing the Kits Care Card on Sunday or emailing the office at kccataxion.net.
* Who is Mark Fox anyway?
Mark is currently our interim minister, but he has had an eclectic career including 12 years at UBC as a software developer/manager in the computer networking area, 10 years on staff at Olive Baptist Church, 7 years as a remote software developed for Silicon Valley companies, almost a year as a chaplain at Royal Columbian Hosptial before Fraser Health decided to terminate Spiritual Care in their Acute Care Sites. Mark has two graduate degrees – one in Computer Science and one in Theology.
Happily married to Shirley – a Grade 2 teacher, he has three adult children – Lindsey 26, Caleb 24, and Emma 21. Born in India he returned there roughly 10 years ago and taught at the school Jan Bingham had attended as a child.
If you want to know more about him, we suggest you might want to ask him about “trees, ducks, sailing, and
applications for smart phones”! We are so very glad Mark has joined us.
* A Message From Kits Council- May is Kits Catch Up Month
Since January 25th, when we met and voted on a new council and a budget for 2010, we have been a busy congregation. Some of the highlights of our first 3 months have included:
*Council attendance at Carey Hall course on Church Governance
*Bringing on Mark Fox as our Interim Minister
*Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with our partners
at God's House of Many Faces
*Improved communication through our Kits Matters Email
and updating of our Kits Church website, which is ongoing.
As we move forward, it is time to review our finances, and set the course for the rest of 2010. Our givings to the end of March have been $64,351. However, our budget is based on an income of $78,864 for that same period. Most of our budget addresses our fixed costs including staff time and rent. The other key areas supported by our givings include our Outreach Ministry($36,000) and our Church Plant ($30,000). While our fixed expenses have been met, we need to focus on increasing our monthly income to ensure that we can keep our commitments to our Outreach and Church Plant partners for the rest of the year.
If Kits is your church home, please consider whether you can help us catch up on meeting our budget commitments. Whether increasing your regular givings through PAP, through weekly donations in the plate, or making a one time gift to the church, every donation makes a difference. Please prayerfully consider your role in moving Kits forward financially for 2010.
Your council commits to keeping you well informed on church issues and church finances in the coming months. If you have questions, please approach any council member. Our names are listed on the back of the bulletin. Thank you!
* Supporting Bobbi’s move towards ordination
When Bobbi first joined our children, family, and youth ministry in September 2008, those who were involved in her hiring expressed a commitment on behalf of Kits Christian Community to supporting Bobbi’s credentialing as a licensed pastor and eventually through the process of ordination into the denomination.
At the council meeting on April 22nd, we passed a motion recommending that the denomination recognize Bobbi Salkeld as a licensed pastor and that she move into the ordination track.
We will be focusing energy in the coming months to determine how the church can support Bobbi in the ordination process. Please pray for her in this important step, and consider what kind of support you can offer her in this journey.
