Angels are central in the birth narratives of Jesus found in the gospels of Matthew and Luke.   Angels are messengers of God.   But these messengers did more than inform the characters in the story about what was going on; more than simply instruct them about what to do. These were messengers who brought news of hope, promise, peace, joy and comfort that was meant for a nation struggling under the oppression of the Roman Empire and a world plunged into darkness. Throughout Advent we will explore the message and meaning of these angelic messengers for us today.
