00:00-02:07 Scripture, John 1:1-18
02:07-32:47 Sermon, Ellis Andre.
The prologue to John’s Gospel (1:1-18) is magnificent—profound thought expressed in simple language. It makes some stupendous claims. If it is true, it changes everything; for the world, and for each one of us. If it is not true, it is preposterous.
Those of us who have grown up in the Christian faith can easily take the amazing claim for granted. God became human— no big deal. But think for a moment of the audaciousness of this claim.
So here’s what we will do this morning. We will look at the essential claim of the passage fairly and honestly. Then we will try to evaluate it. And then we’ll ask what this means for us. If the bold assertions in this passage are false or exaggerated, then honesty demands that we jettison them as blasphemous. If they are true this has to be the best news ever.
