Stories from the gospel of Mark

The gospel of Mark often tells stories like a “sandwich”: bread, filling, back to bread. In other words, Mark frequently starts a story, interrupts with a different one, and then comes back to finish the first one. For example, in Mark 11, the cursing of the fig tree makes no sense until you understand the clearing of the temple in the middle.

Our passage this week in Mark 5:21-43 is one of the “sandwich” stories. So what might the bleeding woman and the dead girl have in common? How do these two healing stories make sense of one another?
